General Features of  the District

                Nayagarh district has a unique presence in the agricultural map of the Orissa for its sugar and local variety of moong. Sugar factory and pulse measures station of Nayagarh are mute artiness to its vibrant growth and developments in these sectors. It is situated in the eastern part of Orissa within the latitude of 20.24’N 20.50’N and longitude 85.12’E to 85.50’E and 90m above MSL in the east & south eastern coastal plain agro-climatic zone. The district is surrounded by Khurda in the east and Phulbani & Boudh in the west, Cuttack and Dhenkanal on the north and Ganjam in the south. The total geographical area of the district is 3890 sq.km the district consist of 8 blocks 4 NACs, 177 GPS and 1702 villages.

                The population of the district is 9,62,789 (as per 2011 census) and the density of population is 222 people per sq. Km. The male population is 4,45,037 (46/7) female population is 4,10,881 (43%) and the children population (6teers) is 1,06,871 (11%). The sc population is 1,36,399 (14%) and the ST is 58,691 (6%). The district is quite literate in the sense that its literates number 7,61,759 as against the illiterates numbering 2,01,030. Paddy, moong, biri sesamum, maize, sugarcane, solanaceous vegetables cashew & mango etc.

                The climate of the district is hot & humid with minimum & maximum temperature variation 9.00c and 45.10c respectively May & June are the hottest months & December & January are the coldest months.
